Something Interesting

I found this piece interesting. Nairobi (Kenya) - East Africa offers a vantage point for observing one of the great surprises of the continent: Nigeria, till now famous for its conmen, is becoming an African and world economic superpower right under our eyes. Click here to continue

What it means to be Black

What it means to be Black by Jason Nwansi I was asked to write a poem on what it means to be black But I don't think my words can encapsulate that The rage that I feel when ignored by black-cabs I don't think my words can encapsulate that Constantly over looked coz my complexion don't match I don't think that words can encapsulate that And even though I'm non-threatening I'm still viewed as a threat I don't think that words can encapsulate that. Black, adjective, of the deepest colour Relating to the human group having dark coloured skin Presenting distressing situations in comical terms Like the fools who make jokes out of racism Marked by disaster, marked by despair Damilola Taylor left bleeding on stairs The pages of my dictionary have casually stated That black is full of anger and hatred Maybe that's why I can't get a cab And I keep getting stopped by police and that Plus it's more likely that I'll be shot or stabbed That's called N

REP SLAPS SECURITY MAN. A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinyere Emmanuel Igwe, caused a stir yesterday at the entrance of the National Assembly as he traded blows with a security official. Igwe, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, represents Port Harcourt 2 Federal Constituency, Rivers State. He said he was embarrassed by the security operative. The security personnel, Mr. Chinelo Nwulu, said he was attempting to establish the identity of the lawmaker as he (Igwe) tried to enter the National Assembly. Witnesses said Igwe was apparently angered by the request of the security operative that he should identify himself before entering. They said Igwe gave the security operative "a dirty slap on the right side of his cheek without uttering any word." Igwe was said to have threatened to deal more blows on Nwulu, but was prevented by other security men who rushed to save their colleague from the grip of the lawmaker. He was casually dressed in black trousers and

If you’ve got the power to change one thing, what would that one thing be? …remember, it‘s just one thing.

Ehen!

What has gotten into us people? Why do we act in the way we do? We abuse those in power, yet we do exactly what they do. …in a lower scale that is. We complain, we murmur, we get angry…we get even We want a change…but at what price? We want a revolution…but who will go first? How do we resolve the issue of our nation? What really is the way forward? …We need that before we can ACT on that which we know. Feel free to chip in your 50 kobo.

They say a good laugh does wonders for the soul. Here is one for the weekend. Basically, this guy breaks into a house with a pillow as his duffle bag and heads toward the entertainment center. He's stuffing in all the dvds, dvd player, etc.. And he hears this voice... "Jesus is watching you..." he turns around out of instinct, and quickly scans the dark room... nothing. So he went back to stealing more items.. then he hears it again.. "Jesus is watching you..." he grabs his flashlight and shines it across the room. He sees a bird in a cage, and he aims the light at him. The bird talks... "Jesus is watching you.." The robber stands up and walks over to the bird, he says "Oh your cute birdie, what's your name?" The bird replies, "Moses". The robber laughs, and says "Moses?!? What kind of people name their pet bird Moses?!?" Then the bird giggled a bit.... then replied- "The same people who name their rottweiler Jesu

Re-branding

'Stole' this from Doc. Read on... I am Hungry, Please Re-brand me By: Salisu Suleiman I am Nigeria. I have millions of acres of arable land and billions of cubic litres of water, but I cannot feed myself. So I spend $1 billion to import rice and another $2 billion to import milk. I produce rice, but don’t eat it. I have 60 million cattle but no milk. I am hungry, please re-brand me. I drive the latest cars in the world but have no roads. I lose family and friends everyday on roads for which funds have been looted. I lose my young, my old, and my most brainy and productive people to the potholes, craters and crevasses they travel on everyday. I am in permanent mourning, please re-brand me. My school has no teacher and my classroom has no roof. I take lecture notes through the window and live with 15 others in a single room. All my professors have gone abroad, and the rest are awaiting visas. I am a university graduate, but I am illiterate. I want a future, please re-brand me. Ma

"You have achieved success if you have lived well, laughed often and loved much." - Author Unknown The below excerpts appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune. They were taken from real court records. Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, in most cases he just passes quietly away and doesn't know anything about it until the next morning? Q: What happened then? A: He told me, he says, "I have to kill you because you can identify me." Q: Did he kill you? Was it you or your brother that was killed in the war? The youngest son, the 20-year-old, how old is he? Q: She had three children, right? A: Yes. Q: How many were boys? A: None. Q: Were there any girls? Were you alone or by yourself? Q: I show you Exhibit 3 and ask you if you recognize that picture? A: That's me. Q: Were you present when that picture was taken? Were you present in court this morning when you were sworn in? Q: You say that the stairs went down to the basement? A: Yes. Q:

Word...

"What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly as important as what you will become by reaching your destination." - Zig Ziglar Never say you can’t… Those who have done it don’t have two heads Those who have achieved it probably don’t have what you’ve got You have what it takes to be everything you want to be It all starts from the inside Work hard and have faith Believe in your dreams Believe in yourself It’s a long road so keep on keeping on. Carry with you all you may need for your journey But don’t forget to wear a smile… always

Joke of the Day

Living Will Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her, “I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependant on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.” She got up and unplugged the TV and threw out my beer. She’s such a bitch…

How Northern leaders 'swindle' the region

By Abdullahi Mohammed Governor Aliyu Babangida of Niger State has been doing everything within his power to get fellow 18 state governors in the North and other leaders from the area to change the scandalous poverty levels in our part of the country. It is the right thing to do. Otherwise, the Millennium Development Goals will be a mirage, and the seven-point agenda of President Umaru Yar'Adua. True, poverty is pervasive in the entire country. According to international development agencies, 90million out of of Nigeria's 140 million people live in abject poverty. But desperate poverty is far more pronounced in the North. Apparently in response to unflattering statistics, from international agencies and the Central bank of Nigeria, Gov Aliyu took the gauntlet to address the acute poverty in the area. He has, among others, conducted a major conference on this issue and sought far-reaching solutions to it within the shortest possible time. However, not all northern leaders are pre

Woke up early Struggled to the bathroom Got dressed and ready for work... Its 40 miles away. Had cereal and dashed into the car. Haven't prayed for more than a minute (literally) in a while. Today, something made me stay longer... and i loved it. Engine running, mouth moving, heart meditating... Done praying and started on my way. Got on the highway and remembered I had to make a quick call. Headset on, dialled number and started the gist... Slow moving vehicle in front, indicated and moved... well almost. Blaring horns, Car at top speed... Swerved a bit and zoomed past. Me calm, still talking but heart thankful. It almost happened but thank God it didn't.
The day oil was discovered in Nigeria By Andrew Walker BBC News, Oloibiri, Nigeria Chief Sunday Inengite can understand why people have taken up arms Chief Sunday Inengite remembers the day the foreigners who had come to his village in Nigeria's Niger Delta struck oil. "They made us be happy and clap like fools, dance as if we were trained monkeys," he says. Years later, the 74-year-old now looks back on his youthful enthusiasm with sour regret. Nigeria has become Africa's biggest oil producer, but the people of Oloibiri complain they have not seen much of the money made in the 52 years of oil production. "It smacks of wickedness, hard-heartedness," he says. Inquisitive Mr Inengite was 19 years old when the foreign engineers came looking for oil in 1953. An inquisitive young man, he made friends with the British, German and Dutch engineers during the years they were exploring the area around Oloibiri, now in Bayelsa State. "I was trying to know why t
